Alternative Rap refers to hip-hop teams who refuse to follow any traditional stereotypes of rap, such as gangsta, funk, bass, hardcore and party rap. Instead, they mix different genres, adding equal elements of funk and pop / rock, as well as jazz, soul, reggae and even folk. While teams Arrested Development and Fugees managed to succeed and to express themselves, most alternative rap groups remain largely alternative rock musicians for the fans, not for the hip-hop or pop audience.
